My mom's and dad's wedding story

Weddings are an important part of every person’s life. Weddings in countries all over the world are celebrated differently. A wedding can be with 1.000 guests and can also be small with 20 people. Weddings can be religious or secular. In Cyprus most of the couples who get married are in the churches.
My mom and dad got married on December 5th, 1995 after knowing each other for 2 years. They chose St.Johns Church in Archiepiskop’s  palace to get married because my mom’s grandmother got married there and so did my moms brother. The church is very old and very small. A priest married them and during the ceremony they also had a choir singing. Unfortunately I did not attend their wedding because I was not born then but they told me they had around 250 guests attending their wedding whose dinner party was at the Cyprus Hilton Hotel.
My mom’s wedding dress was white coloured. She had it made by a Cypriot designer. My dad wore a black suit. They had 2 small flower girls who wore the same colour and design dresses as my mom’s wedding dress. On the day of the wedding my mum kept the tradition of something old, new, blue and borrowed. White roses and candles filled the church and the hotel ballroom.
My dad had his best friend as a best man and so did my mom. The maid of honor wore a lovely blue dress and the best man a blue suit. My grandparents, aunts and uncles were dressed with suits and lovely dresses. My uncle drove my mom, grandfather and grandmother to the church where my dad was waiting for my mom at the church’s entrance with a lovely bouquet of small white roses. My grandfather escorted my mom to the entrance of the church and there my dad gave my mom a kiss and the bouquet of flowers. They then all entered the church and the ceremony began. When the ceremony finished their friends were waiting for them outside the church to through rice and rose petals to the newlyweds.
Upon arriving at the hotel my mom and dad went to freshen up in their hotel room which they were going to stay the night. They then went to the ballroom where the guests were waiting for them to cut their wedding cake. After cutting the cake and drinking a glass of champagne my mom called to all the single girls so she could throw her flower bouquet. They then all sat down to have their set menu dinner which was chosen by my mom with great care. Soft music filled the room during dinner. Later on through the night a D.J. came who played my parents favourite song to which they danced and everyone applauded. The dance floor then filled with friends and family until the early hours of the next day.
They had a lovely wedding which I saw from the pictures taken and later on to complete their happiness they had all 3 of us!!!

My name

Hello my name is Maria-Denise Athinodorou. This name is originated from my grandmothers .Half of my name which is Maria.is from the god's wife and the other half has no specific meaning.
Both of my parents decided on my name when I was born as a respect for their mothers. My moms mum is Maria and my dad's mum is Denise.
I love my name and I think that is very unique and whoever hears it asks me where I got it from.Sometimes people are call me Maria only and it upsets me because I was baptised with both names. When I will have children in the future I will love to give them names like Yvonni for a girl and Erikos for a boy.
